Cultural Event Poster

Sophomore Year: Fall

For this project, I designed a 16x20" vertical poster promoting an authentic cultural event outside of my own background: the Chinese Lantern Festival. The Lantern Festival is a traditional Chinese celebration marking the final day of Lunar New Year festivities, featuring illuminated lantern displays, performances, and community gatherings.

Before designing, I conducted in-depth research to understand the cultural significance of the festival - this included studying traditional colors, symbolism, patterns, imagery, and typography commonly associated with the event, as well as reviewing existing festival materials and successful poster designs. The poster includes all essential event information—dates, times, city, specific location, and event URL. The final design balances culturally respectful visual elements with strong design hierarchy and clarity.
