Downlow Magazine Spread

Sophomore Year: Spring

This project challenged me to create a compelling print magazine concept that could compete with digital media and justify maintaining a physical publication. I developed a concept for Downlow, an art magazine centered on lowbrow and non-mainstream contemporary art.

The project included designing a masthead, cover, and six-page feature article, centered on the work of contemporary artist Chris Shands. Her artwork informed the magazine’s tone, layout, and visual identity. Through research of innovative print magazines, I explored the relationship between typography, imagery, and layout to create cohesive, dynamic spreads that demonstrate the continued relevance of print in a digital-first world.
